The Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar

Witnesses: Kathryn McCallion, Jim Gould

The day’s testimony focuses on a June 2002 memorandum to Minister of Foreign Affairs Bill Graham and a related telephone conversation between Kathryn McCallion (Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT)) and Jack Hooper (Assistant Deputy Director of Operations for the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS)). Commission Counsel Marc David concludes direct examination of Ms. McCallion. Marlys Edwardh (Counsel for Mr. Arar), Barbara McIsaac (for the Attorney General of Canada), and Leonard Shore (Counsel for Mr. Hooper) conduct cross-examinations. There is a brief re-examination of Jim Gould (former Deputy Director, DFAIT Foreign Intelligence Division) by Mr. Shore.
