The Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar

Witness: Gar Pardy

Following a brief procedural discussion, Henry Garfield (Gar) Pardy (former Director General of Consular Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT)) testifies. Mr. Pardy is questioned by Michel Décary (Counsel to consul Léo Martel and former Canadian Ambassador to Syria Franco Pillarella) and Commission Counsel Paul J. J. Cavalluzzo. Testimony focuses on Mr. Pardy’s correspondence with Mr. Martel and Ambassador Pillarella during the course of Mr. Arar’s detention in Syria, the communication of specific details of Mr. Arar’s treatment, and knowledge of Syria’s human rights record.
