Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities

Witnesses: Dawson Hovey, Odilon Émond

The Commission continues to hear testimony on the use of sponsorship funds for the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Associate Commission Counsel Guy Cournoyer conducts direct examination of Dawson Hovey (former Director of Public Affairs and Information for the RCMP), asking him about the role of Charles Guité in arranging funding. There are short cross-examinations by Richard Dearden (Counsel for the Office of the Auditor General), Pierre Fournier (Counsel for Alfonso Gagliano), and Brian Saunders (on behalf of the Attorney General of Canada). Mr. Cournoyer proceeds with direct examination of Odilon Émond (former Assistant Commissioner of “C” Division of the RCMP), questioning him on the involvement of Jean Lafleur in arranging funding for events.
