Inquiries on CPAC - The Gomery Inquiry – November 23, 2004 (Part 1 of 5)

Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities

Witness: Charles Guité

The Commission continues to hear testimony from Charles (Chuck) Guité (former Director General of the Advertising and Public Opinion Research Sector (APORS) and Executive Director of the Communication Coordination Services Branch (CCSB) at Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC)). Under examination by Richard Auger (Counsel for Mr. Guité), Mr. Guité describes the roles of Jean Pelletier and Alfonso Gagliano in selecting events and agencies for sponsorship and in approving advertising campaigns. During a brief re-examination by Commission Counsel Neil Finkelstein and further cross-examination by Guy Pratte (Counsel for Mr. Pelletier), there are questions about Mr. Guité’s receiving of perks and about his promotion within the public service.
