Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities

Witness: Charles Guité

Guy Pratte (Counsel for Jean Pelletier) concludes cross-examination of Charles (Chuck) Guité (former Director General of the Advertising and Public Opinion Research Sector (APORS) and Executive Director of the Communication Coordination Services Branch (CCSB) at Public Works and Government Services Canada). Testimony focuses on responsibility for the selection of advertising agencies and meetings with Mr. Pelletier (Jean Chrétien’s chief of staff). The Commissioner issues a ruling acceding to the House of Commons’s assertion of parliamentary privilege and precluding the use of parliamentary committee testimony as evidence in the Commission’s inquiry.
