Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities

Witness: Mario Parent

The Commission hears testimony from Mario Parent (the former advertising program coordinator in the Communication Coordination Services Branch (CCSB) of the Department of Public Works and Government Services). In direct examination, Associate Commission Counsel Guy Cournoyer asks Mr. Parent about the hiding of payment for a plaque in San Martino, Italy within the sponsorship of Winterlude in Ottawa. Mr. Parent is also asked about a private box at the Corel Centre in Ottawa paid for by the government, operated by Gosselin Communication, and used to entertain government employees. Anouk Fournier (Counsel for Alfonso Gagliano), Richard Auger (Counsel for Charles Guité), and Sylvain Lussier (on behalf of the Attorney General of Canada) conduct brief cross-examinations. The Commission grants standing to Malcolm Media Inc. and Luc Lemay.
