Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities

The Commissioner grants additional funding to the Conservative Party of Canada following a motion by party counsel Arthur Hamilton. André Noreau (Counsel for John Welch) requests the continuation of a publication ban on earlier testimony by Jean Brault potentially implicating Mr. Welch. Raphaël Schachter (Counsel for Paul Coffin) makes a submission requesting the continuation of a publication ban on Mr. Brault’s testimony. The Commission hears submissions requesting the removal of the ban by Associate Commission Counsel Guy Cournoyer, Sylvain Lussier (on behalf of the Attorney General of Canada), Mark Bantey (Counsel for Bell Globemedia, the Canadian Press, CanWest News Services, Le Journal de Montréal, La Presse, Société Radio-Canada, and Le Soleil), Pierre LaTraverse (Counsel for Jean Carle), and Doug Mitchell (Counsel for the Liberal Party of Canada).
