Inquiries on CPAC - The Arar Inquiry – June 30, 2005 (Part 2 of 6)
The Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar
Witness: Michel Cabana
The Commission continues to hear testimony from Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Inspector Michel Cabana. Under cross-examination by Marlys Edwardh (Counsel for Mr. Arar), Mr. Cabana speaks about the RCMP’s receiving information obtained from Mr. Arar during supposedly confidential Canadian consular visits in Syria, Mr. Arar’s status as a person of interest to the RCMP, and attempts to interview Mr. Arar in January 2002 and during his detainment in the United States in October 2002. Numerous claims of national security confidentiality are made by Simon Fothergill (for the Attorney General of Canada) in the course of Mr. Cabana’s testimony.
