Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182

Witness: Dale Mattson

Dale Mattson (a former employee of Transport Canada and manager of safety and security at Toronto Pearson International Airport in 1985) continues his testimony before the Commission. Under direct examination by Commission Counsel Anil Kapoor, Mr. Mattson speaks about Transport Canada’s handling of airport security in the spring of 1985. Mr. Kapoor asks Mr. Mattson about a variety of government documents and other materials. He also asks Mr. Mattson about Transport Canada’s position on the security measures employed by Air India in 1985, including the use of PD4 explosives detection devices, which had been demonstrated to be ineffective in detecting various explosive devices.
