Inquiries on CPAC - The Arar Inquiry – June 15, 2005 (Part 3 of 4)

The Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar

Witness: Franco Pillarella

Lorne Waldman (Counsel for Mr. Arar) continues cross-examination of Franco Pillarella, the former Canadian ambassador to Syria. The ambassador describes consular visits between Léo Martel and Mr. Arar at a Syrian prison. There is an acrimonious exchange on the subject of the Syrians’ sharing Mr. Arar’s supposed confessions with the ambassador. Commission Counsel Paul J. J. Cavalluzzo questions the ambassador on behalf of parties with intervener status. The ambassador denies sharing Canadian intelligence with the Syrians.
