The Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar

Witness: Gar Pardy

Commission Counsel Paul J. J. Cavalluzzo continues examination of Henry Garfield (Gar) Pardy (former Director General of Consular Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT)). Mr. Pardy’s testimony focuses on activities of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Syria in the fall of 2002, conflicting goals and messages being sent by Consular Affairs, CSIS, and the RCMP, the role of Franco Pillarella (the Canadian ambassador to Syria), and ongoing contact with Monia Mazigh (Mr. Arar’s spouse).
