Inquiries on CPAC - The Arar Inquiry – May 24, 2005 (Part 3 of 5)

The Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar

Witness: Gar Pardy

Commission Counsel Paul J. J. Cavalluzzo continues direct examination of Henry Garfield (Gar) Pardy (former Director General of Consular Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT)). Mr. Pardy speaks about his own involvement in Mr. Arar’s case beginning in October 2002 and about attempts to locate Mr. Arar following his removal from the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in New York and deportation to Syria. In the course of testimony, there is a dispute concerning lines of questioning affected by claims of national security confidentiality.
