Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities

Witnesses: Michel Bibeau, Jean Pelletier

Louis Bélanger (Counsel for Luc Lemay) conducts direct examination of Michel Bibeau (a former vice-president at Expour) with questions focusing on the purchase of sponsorship rights to trade shows run by Gaétan Mondoux. There are cross-examinations by Sylvain Lussier (on behalf of the Attorney General of Canada) and Commission Counsel Bernard Roy. Jean Pelletier (Jean Chrétien’s former chief of staff) testifies with Guy Pratte (Counsel for Mr. Pelletier) asking him about his role in the 1997 federal election campaign, his relationship with various staff members of the Quebec wing of the Liberal Party of Canada, the hiring of Pierre Tremblay as the replacement for Charles Guité, and Mr. Pelletier’s role in the awarding of sponsorship and advertising contracts, including a 1994 contract for Tourism Canada. There are cross-examinations by Pierre Fournier (Counsel for Alfonso Gagliano) and Guy Cournoyer (Associate Commission Counsel).
