Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities

Witness: Charles Guité

The Commission continues to hear testimony from Charles (Chuck) Guité (former Director General of the Advertising and Public Opinion Research Sector (APORS) and Executive Director of the Communication Coordination Services Branch (CCSB) at Public Works and Government Services Canada). The day opens with submissions on the admissibility of evidence relating to an interview between Mr. Guité and the Office of the Auditor General. The evidence is admitted following submissions by Guy Pratte (Counsel for Jean Pelletier), Peter Doody (Counsel for Jean Chrétien), Pierre Fournier (Counsel for Alfonso Gagliano), and Richard Auger (Counsel for Mr. Guité). Mr. Fournier proceeds with cross-examination of Mr. Guité, with questions focusing on the role of Mr. Gagliano in the selection of agencies and events for sponsorship and the appointment of Pierre Tremblay as Mr. Guité’s replacement as head of the CCSB.
