The Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar

Witness: Maureen Girvan

Commission Counsel Marc David continues examination of Maureen Girvan (former manager of the Consular Services Section of the Canadian Consulate General in New York). Ms. Girvan recounts her work with Mr. Arar and his family in September-October 2002, including the ascertaining of charges against Mr. Arar, her meeting with Mr. Arar at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in New York on October 3, 2002, contact with Mr. Arar’s family, and attempts to locate Mr. Arar following his movement out of the MDC and deportation to Syria.
