Witness: Gordon Smith

Gordon Smith (former Deputy Minister, Political Affairs, in the Department of External Affairs) continues his testimony before the Commission. Jacques Shore (Counsel for the Air India Victims’ Families Association) cross-examines Mr. Smith about the extent to which he had been briefed about the threat of Sikh terrorism in Canada upon assuming his position at the Department of External Affairs. Mr. Smith is also asked about the persistent threat of Sikh terrorism in Canada in the early 1980s and about assessments of the threat of Sikh terrorism. Commissioner John C. Major asks Mr. Smith some brief questions and Barney Brucker (Counsel for the Attorney General of Canada) conducts cross-examination.
