Witness: John Schmidt

John Schmidt (Integrated Threat Assessment Centre (ITAC), Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS)) testifies under direct examination by Commission Counsel Roger Bilodeau. Mr. Schmidt describes his responsibilities in ITAC and ITAC’s mandate. He gives a detailed slide presentation, providing an introduction to ITAC and to a model used by ITAC in preparing threat assessments. Mr. Bilodeau then asks a series of questions related to ITAC and its mandate. Richard P. Quance (Counsel for the Family Members of the Crew Member Victims of Air India Flight 182, and Indian Nationals) cross-examines Mr. Schmidt. Roger Leclaire (Counsel for the Attorney General of Canada) cross-examines the witness about the details of the terrorist financing regulatory regime in Canada. Mr. Bilodeau offers a brief summation of the insights offered in Mr. Schmidt’s testimony and earlier testimony by Nikos Passas (Northeastern University College of Criminal Justice).
