Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182

Witness: William Dean Laurie

Commission Counsel Anil Kapoor introduces transcripts from the criminal proceedings in The Queen v. Malik and Bagri and makes opening remarks about anticipated testimony before the Commission. William Dean Laurie (a former member of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)) testifies under direct examination by Mr. Kapoor. Mr. Laurie is asked about his work at CSIS gathering intelligence on Sikh extremism, and specifically Babbar Khalsa. He describes his cultivation of sources and speaks about challenges posed by his work within the East Indian and Sikh communities in Canada. Mr. Laurie recalls details of his interactions, in the course of the investigation into the bombing of Air India flight 182, with a source in the Sikh community identified as “Ms. E” with possible first-hand knowledge of the bomb plot.
