The Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar

Witness: Marlene Catterall

Continuing her testimony under examination by Commission Counsel Marc David, Marlene Catterall (Member of Parliament for Ottawa West–Nepean) describes her April 2003 trip to Syria to advocate on Mr. Arar’s behalf. She recounts Mr. Arar’s return to Canada following his release and subsequent events. Under cross-examination by Lorne Waldman (Counsel for Mr. Arar), Ms. Catterall speaks about conflicting messages being sent to the Syrians by various Canadian agencies.
