Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities

Witnesses: Sheila Fraser, Shahid Minto, Ronald Campbell, Louise Bertrand

The Commission hears testimony from a panel of witnesses from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada, including Sheila Fraser (Auditor General of Canada), Shahid Minto (Assistant Auditor General), Ronald Campbell (Accountant, Office of the Auditor General), and Louise Bertrand (Senior Director, Office of the Auditor General). Under examination by Commission Counsel Neil Finkelstein, the witnesses explain the mandate, powers, and activities of the Office of the Auditor General. After describing irregularities found in internal audits of government advertising, the witnesses speak in detail about the Auditor General’s own 2003 audit of the Public Works and Government Services sponsorship program.
