The Parliamentary Poet Laureate
The Parliament of Canada has had its own poet since 2001. The Parliamentary Poet Laureate’s term lasts two years and alternates between a Francophone and an Anglophone. This person’s work does not entail transforming speeches by parliamentarians into verse but, rather, drawing Canadians’ attention to poetry and encouraging them to appreciate it.
