Parliament Hill fire of 1916
On Feb. 3, 1916, the Centre Block on Parliament Hill in Ottawa is in flames. The fire reduces to ashes one of the architectural jewels of the British Empire. But the Parliamentary library is saved by the presence of mind of an employee who closed the steel doors that separate the two buildings. A hundred years after the fire, the memory of Michael C. MacCormac lives on. Philippe Murat met with the Grand daughter of the man who saved the Parliamentary Library.
