Andrew Scheer Faces Questions Over His Dual Citizenship – October 3, 2019
Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer speaks with reporters during a campaign stop in Bedford, Nova Scotia, about his Canadian-U.S. citizenship. He received his American citizenship through his father, who was born in the U.S. Scheer says he decided to renounce his American citizenship when he became leader of the party in May 2017. He submitted the paperwork to start the process of renouncing his citizenship in August, before the federal election campaign began. In 2005, Scheer had raised concerns about the dual Canadian-French citizenship of former governor general Michaëlle Jean. She renounced her French citizenship before she was sworn in as governor general.
