G7 Special – June 3, 2018

This week on Perspective with Alison Smith: A broader look at the G7

This special edition of Perspective takes a broader look at the international forum and the overarching geopolitical backdrop against which this year’s meeting meeting takes place.

Ian Bremmer, political scientist and founder of the Eurasia Group, discusses the central thesis in his new book, “Us Vs. Them: The Failure of Globalism”.

Former Canadian prime minister Paul Martin talks about the role of global fora such as the G7 and discusses the role he played in the creation of the much larger G20.

Rachel Curran, director of policy for former prime minister Stephen Harper, speaks about what Canada should be focusing on as host of this year’s G7 Summit in Charlevoix.

The program also examines some of the main themes of next week’s G7 Summit such as economic policy and development, security, climate change, and gender equality.
