On May 3, 2007, in Toronto, Ont., the Centre for the Study of Democracy organized a conference focusing on "Getting the Word Out: Mass Communication during an Emergency.” The Conference brought together emergency workers and the mass media in an attempt to coordinate responses to crises in the future. The keynote speaker was Pamela Wallin, Former CTV Ottawa Bureau Chief with a speech entitled "Canada–U.S. Cross Border Communication Challenges."
