Federal New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton addresses attendees at the 5th annual conference on sustainable community development hosted by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), Ottawa, Ont., February 14, 2008. This year’s conference theme is “Moving Innovation into Practice.”

OMr. Layton, a former Toronto city councillor and former president of the FCM, speaks about the necessity of stronger federal–municipal relationships in establishing sustainable communities across Canada. Mr. Layton also outlines steps the NDP is taking toward achieving this goal.
