International Trade Minister David Emerson presents the opening address at a conference entitled “Canada and the E.U.: Prospects for a Closer Economic Partnership,” Ottawa, Ont., May 15, 2008. The event is hosted by the Public Policy Forum.

Mr. Emerson discusses the Canadian government’s strategy for establishing deeper economic relations with Europe through policy development. He stresses the importance of co-operation between federal and provincial governments in the establishment of what he calls a “new age free trade arrangement.”
