Paleobotanist James Basinger presents a lecture entitled “Whither the Tropical Arctic? From Greenhouse to Icehouse,” at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, Gatineau, Que., October 30, 2008. Dr. Basinger discusses how fossil forests discovered in Canada’s High Arctic can provide insight into the process of climate change and into the potential effects of global warming. After speaking, Dr. Basinger answers questions from audience members. This presentation is part of “Out of the Cold: The Roy Koerner Lectures,” a monthly lecture series focusing on scientific exploration. The series is organized in recognition of the International Polar Year and the 50th Anniversary of the Polar Continental Shelf Project.
