Tuesday, May 29: Finance Minister Bill Morneau and Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr announce the federal plan to buy the Trans Mountain pipeline from Kinder Morgan, in the hope of beginning construction of its controverial expansion between Alberta and British Columbia. Thursday, May 31: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland speak with reporters in Ottawa about the Trump administration’s decision to impose tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum imports. Canada will impose tariffs on imports of steel, aluminum, and other products from the U.S. up to a value of $16.6 billion CAD in retaliation. The Canadian tariffs will take effect on July 1 and will remain in place until the U.S. eliminates its measures against Canada.
