PEI Senator Mike Duffy, through his lawyer Lawrence Greenspon, announced that he was suing both the Senate of Canada and the RCMP for $7.8m. Mr Greenspon explained that the amounts were justified as they include punitive damages for physical and emotional stress Mr. Duffy endured during the trial as well as loss of income from having been unjustly suspended from the Senate. Mr. Duffy was charged with 31 counts including fraud, bribery and breach of trust of which he was exonerated on all charges in 2016. Minister of Public Services and Newfoundland MP Judy Foote announced that she was retiring from public life after 9 years in Ottawa and another 11 at the House of Assembly in St. John’s. Ms. Foote began her political career working as the Communications Director for Premier Clyde Wells. A tearful Ms. Foote was accompanied by her family at the announcement.
