Mass Communication During an Emergency
On May 3, 2007, in Toronto, Ont., the Centre for the Study of Democracy organized a conference focusing on "Getting the Word Out: Mass Communication during an Emergency.” The Conference brought together emergency workers and the mass media in an attempt to coordinate responses to crises in the future. This session, entitled "Looking Forward: Are Media Prepared?" featured Brian Schwartz (director of the Subbybrook-Osler Centre for Prehospital Care), Joan Pennefather (CRTC commissioner), Michael Evans (University of Toronto), and Julie McCambley (director of contingency planning, CBC).
