S.O.S. Medicare 2: Looking Forward
On May 3–4, 2007, in Regina, Sask., the Canadian Health Coalition held the "S.O.S. Medicare 2: Looking Forward" conference. This gathering brings together leading experts and activists in what Tommy Douglas called the Second Phase of Medicare. This opening session featured Shirley Douglas (daughter of Tommy Douglas), Greg Marchildon (Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Regina), Colleen Flood (Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto), Allan Blakeney (former Saskatchewan premier and minister of health), Monique Bégin (former minister of national health and welfare), Tom Kent (former policy secretary to Prime Minister Lester Pearson), and Judith Shamian (president and CEO of the Victorian Order of Nurses).
