2008 Metropolis Conference – April 5 (Part 3 of 6)
The tenth national Metropolis Conference is held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, April 3–6, 2008. The theme of this year's conference is "Expanding the Debate: Multiple Perspectives on Immigration to Canada.” The third plenary session held on April 5th and is entitled "Temporary Migration: A Solution to Labour Market Responsiveness?" This panel begins with an address by Esmeralda Gutierrez, who is participating in the Temporary Workers Program at the Prince George Hotel in Halifax. Ms. Gutierrez speaks about how she became involved with the Temporary Workers Program and how it has affected her life. A panel discussion follows Ms. Gutierrez's address. Among the participants are Les Linklater (director general of the immigration branch of Citizenship and Immigration Canada), Shannon Marchand (executive director of immigration policy and programs at Employment and Immigration Alberta), and Carol Logan (director of human resources at the Prince George Hotel in Halifax). After speaking, panellists field questions from audience members.
