The first symposium session features a panel discussion on China–Canada relations. The Canadian Coalition for Democracies (CCD) hosts a symposium entitled "The People’s Republic of China: Foreign Policy Risks and Opportunities," Ottawa, Ont., June 10, 2008.

Brian McAdam (a former Canadian diplomat) speaks about Chinese state activities that occur in Canada, such as trade and export. Alastair Gordon (the president of the Canadian Coalition for Democracies) discusses Canada’s foreign policy regarding China and Taiwan. After speaking, panellists field questions from symposium attendees.
