The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) holds its 30th Annual General Assembly in Calgary, Alberta, July 21–23, 2009.

The AFN says farewell to outgoing grand national chief Phil Fontaine, July 20, 2009. Aboriginal leaders from across the country gather to pay tribute to Mr. Fontaine, the leader of Canadian Aboriginal Peoples over the past decade.

Speeches are presented by Bob Hawkseworth (deputy mayor, City of Calgary), Gene Zwozdesky (Minister of Aboriginal Relations, Government of Alberta), Reggie Crowshoe (chief, Peigan Nation), Charles Weaselhead (Grand Chief, Treaty 7), Maya and Mike Fontaine, and Mr. Fontaine (National Chief, AFN (2000–2009)).
