2007 École d'été de l'Institut du Nouveau Monde Conference (Part 5 of 5)
The Institut du Nouveau Monde holds the 6th edition of its summer school for youth, Quebec City, August 27–30, 2009. This conference brings together more than 1,000 youth from across Quebec and around the world. This year’s conference theme is “What if We Took Power?” This August 29th session, entitled “Aboriginals: Citizens Like Everyone Else?,” features a panel discussion about different perspectives on the issue of First Nations citizenship and the participation of Aboriginals in Quebec and Canadian politics. The panellists are Daniel Salee (Concordia University), Ellen Gabriel (president, Femmes Autochtones du Québec), Julie Courtois-Girard (partnerships co-ordinator, Regroupement des Centres d’amitié autochtones). After speaking, panellists field questions from audience members. Pierre Lepage (Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse, Government of Quebec) moderates.
