The Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages hosts a symposium entitled “40 Years of Official Languages in Canada: Our History and the Path Ahead,” Ottawa, Ont., September 9–10, 2009. This September 9th session, entitled “Bilingualism and the Political Future of Canada: Forces and Faultlines,” features Bernard Shapiro (former principal and vice-chancellor, McGill University), Ayman Al-Yassini (Canadian Race Relations Foundation), Diane Gérin-Lajoie (University of Toronto), and Jean-Benoît Nadeau (author). After speaking, panellists take questions from symposium attendees.
