2009 Halifax International Security Forum (Part 1 of 8)
The Halifax International Security Forum is held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, November 20–22, 2009. This conference is the first of its kind in North America and addresses the top global security challenges facing the transatlantic community. In this opening panel discussion, entitled “Global Transatlanticsm: Where the Allies Are,” panellists discuss how transatlantic security is increasingly indistinguishable from global security. The speakers are Karl-Theodor Freiherr zu Guttenberg (German Defense Minister), Jeanne Shaheen (United States senator), Yukio Okamoto (president, Okamoto Associates (Japan)), and Ilter Turan (professor of political science, Istanbul Bilgi University (Turkey)). Later, the speakers field questions from forum attendees. Pamela Wallin (deputy chair, Senate defence committee (Canada)) moderates the discussion.
