On March 3rd, 2010, the Conference of Defence Associations Institute held their 26th Annual Seminar in Ottawa entitled "Protecting Canada's National Interests in an Uncertain World." The second panel of the day, entitled "Learning from Afghanistan: Capabilities Across the Spectrum," featured Chris Alexander (former Canadian ambassador to Afghanistan), David Kilcullen (author of "The Accidental Guerrilla: Fighting Small Wars in the Midst of a Big One") and Brigadier-General Jonathan Vance, (former Commander Canadian Joint Task Force – Afghanistan).
