Public Record - 2009 Michener Awards for Journalism


On May 27th, the Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean, presented the 2009 Michener Award for meritorious public service in journalism. The Montreal Gazette received the 2009 Michener Award for a series of articles by reporter Linda Gyulai, on the mismanagement of a water management project in the City of Montreal. The Governor General also presented awards to CBC News reporter Julie Ireton, winner of the 2010 Michener–Deacon Fellowship, and the Michener–Baxter Special Award was given posthumously to Michelle Lang, the Calgary Herald reporter who was killed on assignment in Afghanistan.
