Public Record - Canada’s North Beyond 2011 (Part 2 of 6)


In the second session of the conference Canada’s North Beyond 2011, panellists discuss the importance of community development and education and the challenges to realizing natural resource potential in the Arctic. The conference is taking place in Edmonton, Alta., from October 11 to 13, 2011, and is hosted by the Conference Board of Canada.

This discussion on October 12, 2011, features Janet King (an assistant deputy minister at Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada), Ruth Massie (the grand chief of the Council of Yukon First Nations), Eberhard Scherkus (the president of Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd.), and Melanie Sturk (the director of diversity initiatives at the Mining Industry Resources Council). The panel is moderated by Harvey Brooks (the Yukon deputy minister of economic development).
