Public Record - Responsibility to Protect (Part 1 of 4)

The Promise of Media in Halting Mass Atrocities

On October 20-21, 2011, in Montreal, the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies at Concordia University organized a conference titled "The Promise of Media in Halting Mass Atrocities: A Conference to Mark the 10th Anniversary of the Responsibility to Protect."

The first panel examined whether or not the media can make a difference in halting mass atrocities by reporting on them. The participants were Jean-Paul Marthoz (Institute of Higher Studies of Social Communications in Brussels), Dov Shinar (FAIR MEDIA: Centre for the Study of Conflict, War and Peace Coverage, Netanya Academic College in Israel) and Rick MacInnes-Rae (CBC Radio).
