North American Futures – March 16, 2012 (Part 1 of 5)
Diplomats, scholars, practitioners and media gathered in Vancouver from March 16 to 17 to discuss Canadian, American and Mexican perspectives on the future of North America. This is the second conference on North American Futures jointly organized by the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the University of California, Berkeley. The event builds on the first symposium, which was held March 2010 in Berkeley, California. The keynote panel on March 16 was titled "A North America Commons?" Participants discussed the relationship between Canada, the United States and Mexico. The panellists were Robert Pastor, professor in the School of International Service at American University, Jorge Castañeda, professor of politics and Latin American and Caribbean studies at New York University, and former Canadian foreign affairs minister Bill Graham, chancellor of Trinity College in Toronto. Former Canadian diplomat Jeremy Kinsman moderated the session.
