Newfoundland and Labrador Finance Minister Tom Marshall delivered the 2012 budget address, on April 24th, in the House of Assembly. The budget address, entitled “People and Prosperity: Responsible investments for a secure future,” focused on responsible management while protecting key public services and enhancing economic growth. Some of the measures announced include plans to strengthen health care, improve child care and promote a skilled labour force.
The 2012 budget reflects the end of federal payments under the Atlantic Accord and is projecting a deficit for 2012-2013. The government anticipates a return to surplus by the 2014-15 fiscal year.
