Voice of Hope Award 2014
The Economic Club of Canada's third annual Voice of Hope humanitarian award is presented to Elisapee Sheutiapik, former mayor of Iqaluit and creator of the Angel Street Project. (October 20, 2014) Elisapee Sheutiapik helped raise awareness for domestic violence in Nunavut by renaming a street leading to a women's shelter "Angel Street." She created the Angel Street Project as a challenge to all communities in Canada to name an Angel Street in their own communities. This third annual award celebration also features addresses by several notable individuals, including Ghislain Picard (National Chief, Assembly of First Nations), Ed Picco (Principal Secretary to Nunavut Premier Peter Taptuna) and a performance by actor and singer Tom Jackson.
