The 2006 Teachers Institute
A panel of speakers discuss youth involvement in the Canadian political process at the Teachers Institute on Canadian Parliamentary Democracy, Ottawa, Ont., November 6, 2006. The Teachers Institute is an annual professional development event held for specially selected Canadian educators. The panellists are Allan Woods (CanWest News Service), Véronique Lalande (assistant to Bloc Québécois MP Richard Nadeau), Chris Warkentin (Conservative MP), and Jaime Koebel (assistant to the president of the Métis National Council). The speakers discuss alternative methods of youth political involvement, low youth voter turnout, and youth influence in the Canadian political sphere. Later, the panellists field questions from audience members. Nishad Khanna (Centre of Excellence for Youth Engagement) moderates and poses questions to discussion participants.
