Canada’s Business Environment and Competitiveness (Part 4 of 4)
The Public Policy Forum hosts a conference focusing on an economic plan released by Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, entitled “Advantage Canada: Building a Strong Economy for Canadians,” Ottawa, Ont., January 23, 2007. This conference session focuses on Canada’s international trade policy. Conference chair Giles Gherson makes opening remarks and moderates. Stewart Beck (Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade) discusses the Global Commerce Strategy (GCS) outlined in Advantage Canada and proposes a new direction for Canada’s GCS. Bill Dymond (senior executive fellow at the Carleton University Centre for Trade Policy and Law) suggests strategies for implementing a new international trade policy in Canada. Louis Ranger (Deputy Minister of Transport Canada) speaks about the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative and the need to establish transportation infrastructure that will facilitate global trade in the 21st century.
