Public Record - Annual Couchiching Conference – August 7, 2004 (Part 3 of 5)


The Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs hosts its 73rd annual conference in Orillia, Ont., August 5–8, 2004. This year’s conference is entitled “God’s Back with a Vengeance.”

In this August 7th session, panellists explore the conflicts created by religious extremism in secular states such as France, India, and Turkey. Following this, students from Russia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Egypt lead a discussion. Rinku Lamba (a scholar at the University of Toronto) discusses multiculturalism in India, where secularism serves to preserve values of equal citizenship.
