Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mark Strahl (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development) face numerous inquiries following the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s report on First Nations residential schools; questions focus on the report’s recommendations and its characterization of the residential school system as “cultural genocide.” Mr. Harper and Mr. Strahl also respond to requests for Canada to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
