1st Session—35th Parliament

Lucien Bouchard (the leader of the Official Opposition) and Prime Minister Jean Chrétien debate the role of the federal government in the campaign leading up to the October 30, 1995, Quebec referendum on sovereignty; Mr. Bouchard alleges that Industry Canada is using federal subsidies to entice Quebec corporations to join the “no” campaign. Later, David M. Collenette (Minister of National Defence) responds to allegations that the Department of National Defence falsified documents and destroyed videotape evidence pertaining to the ongoing Somalia inquiry; Lloyd Axworthy (Minister of Employment and Immigration) is asked about pension reforms.
